Your Dollars at Work

Top-notch epilepsy scientists and healthcare providers don’t just happen. The American Epilepsy Society is a leader in educating epilepsy professionals, providing support and assistance in career development, and mentoring the next generation of epilepsy researchers.

Gifts to the American Epilepsy Society help us provide grants and fellowships that attract the best and brightest young scientists and clinicians to the epilepsy field. They are the professionals who will generate new discoveries and treatments for years to come.

AES research grants have a record of impressive results. Awardees report that “the prestige of the AES grant was so helpful,” and “it gave me the jump start I needed to launch my research career and successfully compete for long-term NIH funding.”

Of  314 grant awards in which AES played a role over the last decade, a large percentage of awardees went on to make significant accomplishments, including:

  • Approximately 3,000 publications, 77% related to epilepsy
  • Approximately $120 million in subsequent research grants, 50% related to epilepsy
  • 87% currently direct or conduct research, 52% with external funding
