CHICAGO - Ruben I. Kuzniecky, M.D. was presented with the 2020 Clinical Science Research Award during the AES2020 event of the American Epilepsy Society (AES). The Research Recognition Awards are the Society's highest research awards, to encourage and recognize active basic science and clinical investigators whose research contributes importantly to understanding and conquering epilepsy.

Dr. Kuzniecky is Professor and Vice Chair Academic Affairs at Zucker Hofstra School of Medicine at Northwell. Previously, he was Professor of Neurology at NYU and Co-Director of the NYU Epilepsy Center, and Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Director of the UAB Epilepsy Center.

Dr. Kuzniecky is considered a world leader in the application of neuroimaging and genetics and has advanced understanding of both the biological basis of epilepsy and the care of patients. He is widely respected and recognized as a leading expert in epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, neuroimaging, and brain malformations. He has been awarded over 60 grants from NIH, industry, and foundations. He serves(d) on the editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer for international epilepsy and neuroscience journals, and has written two books for patients and families.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and elected member of the American Neurological Association, Dr. Kuzniecky served as board member and Treasurer of AES, Chair of the Oldendorf Award, board member of the American Society of Neuroimaging, and president of the Southern Epilepsy Society. He founded Fundacion LUCES, an NGO that provides free medication, education and social support to disadvantaged families affected with epilepsy in the Republic of Panama.
