H. Steve White, R.Ph., Ph.D., Receives the American Epilepsy Society's 2020 Extraordinary Contributions to the Field of Epilepsy Award

CHICAGO - H. Steve White, R.Ph., Ph.D. was presented with the 2020 Extraordinary Contributions to the Field of Epilepsy Award during the AES2020 event of the American Epilepsy Society (AES). This award is designated for those who have made extraordinary contributions across multiple fronts, including science, education, leadership, and advocacy. The award is only presented in those years when the Board of Directors determines there is an individual whose accomplishments embody the spirit of the recognition.

Prof. White currently serves as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Dr. White earned his baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy and a MS in Pharmacology at Idaho State University. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Utah where he served on the College of Pharmacy faculty. Before joining the University of Washington Prof. White served as the principal investigator and scientific director of the NIH-sponsored Anticonvulsant Drug Development (ADD) Program.

Prof. White’s research is focused on understanding the factors that contribute to the initiation, propagation, and amelioration of seizure activity and the development, characterization and implementation of new seizure and epilepsy models for evaluating anti-seizure drug efficacy. He and his collaborators have published over 200 original papers in this area. In addition to his academic service, he served as Research Director of CURE Epilepsy, and continues to serve as a Research Advisor. He has been a co-organizer of two NIH-sponsored workshops on models of refractory epilepsy and epileptogenesis and currently serves on the organizing committee of the biannual Eilat Conferences on Antiepileptic Drug Development.
